Together

Well, it's such an interesting and unusual story of how Ron and I met that I thought I would write about it. I love telling it and sharing it with everyone! It's kinda long but I hope you enjoy it.

Love at First Sight?
In early September 1995 I was working for Kirby, selling vacuums door-to-door. I absolutely hate sales jobs and was getting very frustrated. I was living in Hawaii at the time and was going around Kaneohe Marine Corps Base getting reggies. Reggies are these little cards that are registrations for winning a trip or money or whatever. They are also a tool in getting leads for sales (I'll get to that in a minute). So I was getting bored with knocking on doors and having them closed in my face. I decided I would knock on one more door and then I was going home! So I came to a row of houses. For some reason I skipped the first door and went to the second. A man wearing only a pair of black and blue shorts and talking on the phone answered the door. I was half explaining why I was there and half looking into his beautiful blue eyes. He waved me inside and told me to have a seat at the table. He continued talking on the phone and half listened to me and agreed to give me his name and phone number. I was so shocked he agreed and a tad flustered by him that I said thank you and left. Only to realize after I had walked away that I had forgotten to give him his half of the card with the details about this Vegas trip or something. So I turned around and knocked on his door again, blushing horribly. I told him what I had forgotten, he thanked me and smiled (great smile by the way) and I left.
How you get the sales lead: when you get someone's name and phone number you turn the cards into Kirby and they have someone call them and tell them they won either a rug shampoo, upholstery cleaning, or ginsu knives. When Ron was called he picked Ginsu knives. Unfortunately, the person who spoke with him forgot to mention that in order to win the knives he had to see a short presentation. Which is where I come in and show him the Kirby. So the night I got to his house (September 28, 1995) and came to the door and told him what I was there for he wasn't very happy. He almost didn't even let me in the door. Luckily he said what the hell and let me in. I showed him the Kirby in about 20 minutes, but I was at his house for about 3 hours. We talked alot and he bought the vacuum!! Before I left I gave him my phone numbers in case he needed anything. Yeah right, you would have thought he would have gotten the hint to call me since I gave him my office number, home number and pager number! I left and about 2 weeks later I quit my job. That Kirby was my one and only sale!

Or Maybe Second Sight?
One night in October I happened to stop by the Kirby office on my way to a meeting to see how everyone was doing. Cindy (my ex-manager) was the only one there. She mentioned that one of my customers had called and needed to have a check picked up. The customer was Ron. He was supposed to pay for the Kirby with a check two weeks after he bought it. Since I had quit I completely forgot about it. So I said you know what I'm going that way I'll just stop by and pick it up for you. It was actually out of my way and I was probably going to be late for this meeting but oh well. When he opened the door and saw me he was clearly shocked.. and pleased. I told him what happened and we talked for about 30 minutes. He told me he had actually called and left messages for me (while I still worked there) about 5 times. No one ever gave me the messages!!! He said he had to go cause him and his kids were about to go out to dinner to Sizzler. He asked me if I wanted to join them. I was kicking myself but, I told him that I had to go to this meeting and I was already late. I later found out that he took that as I wasn't interested.

So it took 3 times..but I was leaving!
My Dad and stepmother were moving back to Delaware December 1 or 2 (can't remember). I was planning on staying in Hawaii but plans fell through and I didn't have any where to stay. So I decided to leave early and move in with a friend of mine. I think it was November 22, I was working at a Chevron station. Trapped in a little booth from 7pm to 3am fun stuff! It was my last night and I decided to call Ron. My excuse was to give him the numbers to the Kirby repair shop since he wouldn't be able to call me. He didn't even bother to write down the number. We talked for about 20 minutes but he had to take a friend of the kids home. So he said he'd call me back. He actually got back about 10 minutes later but not wanting to seem too eager he waited an hour to call me. We talked for the rest of my shift. At 3am my boss came to relieve me. I asked Ron if he would mind some company... he said no and I came over. We spent the rest of the morning talking, and I fell asleep in his arms on the living room floor. He later told me we were in the middle of a conversation at the time lol. I went home about noon and then went back to his house about an hour later. We took the kids to the mall and walked around holding hands. The next morning it was time for me to catch my plane. He took me home and him and the kids went dirtbike riding that day. I went to lunch with my Dad and stepmom and then they took me to the airport. I almost turned around about 10 times. When I got to California I cried, I wished I had never left.
Across the Miles
While I was in Delaware we talked on the phone everyday about 5 times a day. We talked about everything and got to know each other inside and out. The connection we had was wonderful, but too far away. Finally after the phone bill went up to about $1500 he decided it was much cheaper to send me a plane ticket.

Together at last!
He picked me up at the airport December 21, 1995 with a rose in his hand and the most gorgeous smile on his face. There was another rose and a box of caramel chocolates in the truck. Seeing his face and having his arms around me was the most wonderful feeling in the world!
We got engaged January 21, 1996. We had a wedding in a garden in Hawaii with just the four of us on April 18, 1996. Then we were transferred to Erie, PA. We made plans to have another wedding in Delaware in the process of the move. We were married in front of our friends and family July 27, 1996 (check out the wedding pages for all the pics). We've been together ever since and will be together always.
